In 1999, Anita M. Palmer and Roger Palmer founded GISetc., an organization that helps educators develop their skills in teaching geospatial technologies to students from kindergarten to the college level. Palmer has trained thousands of teachers in GIS fundamentals and taught them how to use GIS in their classrooms. In 1999, Roger Palmer founded GISetc., and organization taht helps educators develop their skills in teaching geospatial technologies to students from kindergarten to the college level. Palmer is an experienced middle and high school teacher. Lyn Malone works as an educational consultant specializing in classroom applications of geospatial technologies. Christine L. Voigt is an award-winning educator and freelance curriculum writer from Dallas, Texas. She serves as a teacher consultant for National Geographic Society and a member of the ESRI K-12 Authorized Teaching Program.
Teachers with no GIS background can easily complete the lessons in this book. Each step includes clear instructions accompanied by screen captures. The first lesson covers the basics of ArcMap. Each lesson consists of two lessons, a global perspective and a regional perspective. After completing the first module, feel free to complete the remaining modules in any order.
The lessons are aligned to National Geography, Science and Technology Standards.
